What should you do to be sent out not from the seminary?
Casiciaco Recoletos Seminary. I entered this house of philosophy study in the year 2011 and graduated in the year 2015. Within those years, I witnessed how the number of seminarians decreased. It became then the push-through to my question on how a seminarian can keep-stay in the seminary and proceed to the pre-novitiate bringing with him the good record and reputation. However, it is somewhat interesting to reword the question to “What should a seminarian do to be sent out not from the seminary?” From my experience, here are the tips on how to be sent out not from the seminary.
Follow the schedule.
This is one of the most important reminders that every seminarian must know. The schedule set-up of the seminary is already organized before a seminarian enters the house. What’s the point then of complaining about waking up at 5:15 in the morning, praying for about six times a day, and working on in the seminary ground? Want to be a seminarian? So, follow how the seminary forms a seminarian.
Obey the rules and the regulations.
Similar to the first above-mentioned, the rules and the regulations of the seminary are already bound to be followed. “Ignorance of the law excuses no one.” It’s not an excuse to know not the rules and the regulations of the seminary since you, as a seminarian, is given a handbook containing the rules, the regulations, and the schedule. Obey them. You will surely have a plus in your “obedience” evaluation.
Live the charism of the Order or the Congregation.
The Order of the Augustinian Recollect has the charism of living together as brothers intent upon God. In the other words, OAR is communitarian. It is always a measuring factor of the formators to see in a seminarian the capacity to live out the charism of the Order or the Congregation.
Follow the praying time.
You enter the seminary because you want to serve God through the priestly and religious vocation. Show it then that you really want to serve God through the priestly and religious vocation. Build a strong spiritual relation with the Lord.
Pass the grading standard.
Seminary is not just about praying. It is also about making the seminarian adept at the knowledge of philosophy, Scripture, language, psychology, and what not.
Work when it’s time to work.
Work is also part of the schedule. Show yourself working. Give the formators the know-how that you are responsible for your work. If you struggled with your grades, take a bat on the other aspect. You can pray well or work well.
Have a regular dialogue.
The formators might interpret you badly from their own perspective. Have a dialogue. Share why you act like such. They should know you according to how you want them to know you.
Build rapport with the fathers.
You have to build rapport with your formators. When you do this, the things that they will say on your evaluation are all positive.
Live well with your brothers and the personnel.
You are not alone in the huge seminary. You have your brothers and the personnel. They also have a say about you.
